cactus potting mix is designed to provide much required organic compounds which decompose slowly and provide a broad spectrum of nutrients for a longer duration to your cactus and succulents.

This is a Coarse-grained Media which is ideal for planting thick rooted or bigger cactus and succulents. Very much suitable for adeniums and caudeciformes.

The raw material is washed several times and sieved and finally graded for usage. The organic nutrient rich additives are then blended into cocopeat over a few days and then mixed with evenly grained raw material. It contains the following organic and fibrous material to make your plants grow healthy: –

• Bone meal. Bone meal is a store house of organic phosphates. Bone meal is particularly good for cacti because cacti have sparse roots and Phosphate absorption is related to root surface area. Adding phosphate from top may not be as effective as having it properly dispersed in the media, which we do by proper blending and dispersing by mechanical means.
• Sterameal. Has enough of organic nutrient pool without making the media too saline and raising the PH.
• Neem Cake Organic Khad. Keeps nematodes and root pests at bay. Compatible with succulent and cactus and increases fertility of media. Improves texture.
• Zn and Boron. Low Zinc inhibits synthesis of photosynthetic enzymes. Low Zinc can give your cacti that malnutrition-ed look. Zinc helps in plant nutrition. Boron is an essential micronutrient which helps reproductive growth of plants.

Application:

1. Seedlings: Are particularly prone to phosphorous deficiency. This is what gave us the idea to make and try out this mix. This media is coarse grained so it will work well with larger seedlings. However for smaller seedlings try out the Fine grained medias. Works for us – so should work for you too.

2. Potted plants: A small to medium cactus pot is about 200 cc to 300 cc in volume. 1 kg media is approximately 1350 cc. So, at a cost of 20 – 25 Rs your expensive cactus gets a new lease of life and breaks free from the stagnated growth which usually occurs in salt rich soil or clayey medias.

3. Succulent Cuttings: Since the mixture is rich, porous and has fiber content too, it automatically qualifies for rooting succulent or cactus cuttings. Though a word of caution here is required. Cuttings should be properly calloused before inserting in this media as this media is highly organic rich – rich with microbial activity.

Note: Base media used is Fired clay particles. It is having porous grains unlike silica, sand, grit or gravel. Thus, it cools the roots and gives a slow and constant water supply to root hairs.
