Melocactus azureus is one of the stunning and uncommon cacti to grow from Brazil. The blue-green cactus has a weird cephalium. It is one of the favorite cacti among the collectors. Cultivating this cactus from seeds is difficult but can be accomplished with patience and care.

First, get Melocactus azureus seeds from a trusted seed source. Fresh seeds germinate well. Soak the seeds in hot water for a few hours before planting. This softens the seed coat and triggers germination.

M. azureus prefers warm temperatures and lots of sunlight. Acclimate them gradually to full sun when mature. Fertilize with a cactus food at one-quarter strength during the growing season. From a mature plant, it will produce a cephalium, a fuzzy red column from which the flowers will grow.
