How to Seed (Cold Stratification Required)
- Echinacea Cheyenne Soak Paper Towel: Wet paper towel but no drip.
- Add Seeds: Put Echinacea seeds on a wet paper towel.
- Seal & Keep: Place seeds on a towel, and seal them in a container or plastic bag.
- Refrigerate: Store in refrigerator for 4–6 weeks (35–40°F / 1–4°C).
- Weekly Check: Dip towel a little wet, but no drip.
- Indoors (Best If Begun Early)
- Echinacea Cheyenne Time: Sow seeds 8–10 weeks prior to the last frost.
- Soil: Sow in well-draining compost for light-textured seeds.
- Planting: Sow seeds on the surface and top with a very thin layer of compost.
- Water: Water compost as usual but never waterlogged.
- Light & Heat: Remain in light position at 65–70°F (18–21°C).
- Sprouting: Seeds will be 10–20 days shy of germinating when given cold treatment.
- Repotting: Repot seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
- Fall Planting: Sow seeds in the ground during winter to naturally stratify.
- Spring Planting: Use the fridge method and later plant in warm soil.
