Starting Seeds Indoors
To get a head start, plant Vinca Sunstorm seeds indoors about 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost. First, fill a seed tray with a well-draining potting mix. Then, press the seeds lightly onto the soil, but do not cover them. Since vinca seeds need light to germinate, keeping them on the surface helps them sprout.
Next, mist the soil with water to keep it moist but not soggy. To create a warm and humid environment, cover the tray with clear plastic. Place it in a warm spot, around 75–80°F (24–27°C). In about 10 to 14 days, the seeds should start sprouting. Once they do, remove the plastic cover and move the tray to a bright location.
Vinca Sunstorm Transplanting Outdoors
After the danger of frost has passed and the seedlings have grown strong, they are ready for transplanting. First, choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Before planting, loosen the soil and mix in some compost to improve drainage.
Then, carefully remove each seedling from the tray and plant it about 8 to 10 inches apart. Water them gently after planting to help them settle. Over the next few weeks, water regularly but avoid overwatering. Vinca prefers slightly dry soil, so let the top layer dry out between waterings.
Caring for Vinca Sunstorm
Once established, Vinca Sunstorm requires very little care. Since it is drought-tolerant, it does not need frequent watering. However, during extreme heat, occasional deep watering helps keep the plants healthy.
Fertilizing once a month with a balanced flower fertilizer encourages more blooms. Also, removing faded flowers can help the plant produce new ones. Fortunately, Vinca Sunstorm’is naturally resistant to pests and diseases, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice.
Enjoying the Blooms
By midsummer, your Vinca Sunstorm plants will be full of vibrant flowers. They will continue blooming until the first frost. Whether in garden beds, containers, or hanging baskets, they add beauty and color to any space.
With just a little care, you can enjoy months of stunning flowers. By starting from seed, you can grow healthy, vigorous plants while saving money. Give Vinca ‘Sunstorm’ a try, and brighten up your garden with its cheerful blooms!
