Sunflower Moonshine, start with superior sunflower seeds. Plant natural, pesticide-free seeds to acquire robust and disease-free plants. Plant sunflowers with high oil content as they will produce better when it is time to use them for preparing moonshine. Check the seeds prior to sowing and do not accept the discolored or damaged ones.

Sunflowers like well-drained fertile soil. Select a site with a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight a day. Loosen the soil using a garden fork and add compost or organic manure to supply nutrients. The soil should be between pH 6.0 and 7.5 to thrive. Petunia apple blossom can be a good companion

Plant sunflower seeds directly in the ground once the last frost has passed. Sow them 6 inches apart and 1 inch deep. Water the seeds immediately to start germination. Maintain moist soil but never soggy, or the soil will become rotten. Coleus colorpride shares same weather condition

Secondly, Thin the seedlings as they emerge to give enough space to support them in growing successfully. Water plants regularly, especially in dry weather. Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and prevent weeds. Stake taller-growing varieties of sunflowers so that they will not fall over by a gust of wind.

Once the sunflowers have flowered and the heads start to sag, the seeds will be dry. Let the back of the flower head turn yellow or brown. Cut the heads and suspend them upside down in a good air space. Dry hard and then rub the seeds loose and store them in an airtight container.

To make sunflower oil, either break or press the seeds upon harvest using an expeller press or a cold press. Strain the oil with fine mesh or cheesecloth to eliminate solid materials. Store fresh oil in a dark glass jar so that it is preserved.

After you get sunflower oil, combine it with water and yeast to produce a mash that can be fermented. Place the mash in temperatures under control and allow it to ferment for a week or two. After you have fermented, distill the liquid slowly to obtain the alcohol.

Lastly, Once you’ve distilled it, allow the moonshine to age to a stronger flavor. Package in sealed vessels and drink responsibly. Watch closely and wait patiently and you will have a crop of sunflower plants that will be fermented into an oriental home brew drink from its seeds also.
