Brown-eyed Susan, or Rudbeckia Triton, is a beautiful flower with dark-centered shiny yellow blooms that will enhance your garden. The best part is, that it is easy to grow Rudbeckia Triton from seeds. You can achieve good germination and healthy plant development by simply carrying out a few techniques.

Begin with a good-draining seed-starting potting mix. Fill a flat pan or pan with the mix, leaving an inch of headroom from the top. Rudbeckia Triton seeds need light for germination, so scatter seeds on the surface and not on the ground. Press the seeds into the ground lightly so they are in contact with one another, but plant them not too closely. Then, mist the surface with water lightly to keep the seeds’ moisture level. For germination, keep the temperature between 65–75°F (18–24°C). The seeds don’t need direct sunlight for this but indirect light through pale windows will cause sprouting. Sprouting will occur in 10–20 days. Keep the soil moist but not too soggy.

When the seedlings have two or more pairs of true leaves, they can be planted out. If under glass, harden them off outdoors for seven days. Hardening off helps to avoid transplant shock. Sow in full sun or part sun, and with moderately fertile and well-draining soil.

Warm the ground up by turning it over and incorporating some compost to provide a nutrient boost. Then create little holes just larger than the root ball diameter and plant them 12–18 inches apart. Set each seedling into its hole and firm in. Water heavily.

For easy post-plant care, Rudbeckia Triton just needs to be watered in, particularly if it is arid but not damp. Also, deadhead in order to produce further flowers. As this does self-seed so easily, seed heads clipping back in the late autumn will prevent unwanted propagation. But save a few for leaving on plants to provide for natural reseeding next summer and birds when they come through.
