Nepalense Lilium ,Nepal Lily is a gorgeous, but rarely seen, bi-colored Himalayan lily. It grows up to about 1 m high, usually less. The bulbs are stoloniferous, and for newly planted bulbs, the shoot will often come up some distance from the planting spot. Flowers are few, often solitary, pendant, colored pale green with a purple throat, and scented. Petals are 6-9(up to 13) × 1.6-1.8 cm. Leaves are scattered, lanceshaped or oblong-lanceshaped, 5-10 × 2-3 cm, hairless, 5-veined, margin papillose. Nepal Lily is found in the Himalayas, from Kumaun to NE India, at altitudes of 2300-3400 m. Flowering: June-July.
Nepalense bulbs are very soft
Nepalense Lilium ,A truly rare and unusual Lilium which is hard to find but easy to grow. Native to rocky limestone slopes this is a hardy Lilium variety which enjoys cool climates and good drainage.
Through the summer months huge funnel shaped, pendent blooms open atop tall stems. The petals are cream to green with a rich, purple red throat. The flowers have a nice perfume.
Nepalense Lilium ‘Robusta’ will not need to be lifted and will multiply by means of ‘stolons’ within your garden, these are similar to rhizomes and will establish a colony over time so your joy will be multiplied and you can share this remarkable bulb with friends.
Plant where the soil is well drained, especially in autumn and winter wet. The bulbs tend to rot in those conditions.
If they were grown or planted in the ground while still in their pots, the pots can be lifted and turned on their side – that way they can also avoid natural watering from seasonal, heavy down-pours. Once spring returns, watering can begin again as this will replicate the melting snow normally found in its natural environment. Surprisingly, once this plant becomes established it seems to be quite tolerant of drought.
