1. Morning glory Heavenly Blue Climatic Requirements
Indian weather is best suitable for growing morning glory The plant grows well within the range of 30°C to 45°C day time and under full sun conditions.
Best time to sow when spring starts in india, i.e., February- March or early monsoon, during June-July, when the temperatures are mild and the natural moisture of the region is just about enough for seed germination.
2. Seed Selection and Treatment for Sowing
Use good quality seeds from a reliable source. Morning Glory seeds have a hard outer shell that can delay germination. To ensure faster germination, follow these steps:
Scarification: Gently rub the seeds with sandpaper or nick the outer shell of the seed using a knife.
Soaking: After scarifying, soak the seeds in warm water for 12 to 24 hours
Morning glory Heavenly Blue prefers well-drained soil that has a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0 to 7.5). Mix your garden soil, compost, and sand for an improved aeration and fertility condition.
Water the soil lightly but avoid waterlogging.
4. Germination and Transplanting
Seeds germinate within 7 to 10 days if conditions are appropriate. When the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, thin them so that they have enough space for vines.
If you started seeds in pots, transplant them gently, avoiding damage to the roots.
Sunlight: Morning Glory needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day.
Water: Water them abundantly but little. Allow a small amount of dryness before the next water application.
Treillising/Fencing/Arch: Provide vines to climb using trellises, fences or arches
Fertilize: Fertilize once per month with 10-10-10 NPK balanced fertilizer. Avoid highly nitrogenous fertilizer since it produces foliage more than flowers.
6. Pest and Disease Control
Morning Glory has very prone to disease , they catch spider mites very easily.
Organic neem oil sprays should be applied for pest control.
Sufficient air circulation is needed to avoid fungal infection
7. Morning glory Heavenly Blue Flowers and seeds ripening
About 2-3 months after planting, flowers of the Morning Glory crop appear. These flowers open before morning and will close by the afternoon. For seed propagation in the following season, let a few flowers allow seed pods to mature. Let the seeds completely dry up then store them in a cool and dark place.
It is very easy to grow morning glories from seed in the Indian climate if they are properly taken care of. Along with being attracted to beneficial pollinators such as bees and butterflies, their beautiful blooms add beauty to your garden. So, these are the guidelines that can bring you absolutely the thriving presentation of beautiful flowers all-year round.
