Despite how well it will be able to withstand some temperature fluctuations, subjecting the plant to very low temperatures throughout the year has the result of weakening the plant. Monadenium Ritchiei Variegata Monsoon rains are not good for this succulent. Since it holds water in its thick stems, excess water leads to root rotting. Prevent this by planting it in well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes. Giving it a shade on rainy days will also prevent the formation of waterlogging.

Summer growth. It prefers in direct light but can tolerate morning direct sun. But afternoons of hot sun will burn the plant. If planted outside, half-day shade will keep it from getting too hot. Place it against the south- or west-facing window to give it full light indoors.

Monadenium ritchiei variegata grows slowly at lower temperatures. Though tolerant to mild winters, temperatures less than 10°C may cause loss of variegation of the sensitive variegation.
