Malva sylvestris Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 65-70F (18-20C). Sow in well drained compost, just covering the seed with compost. Sowing Time: February to July. Germination usually takes 14-30 days.
Malva sylvestris Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions before planting out 30cm (12in) apart in full sun.
Just cover the small seeds very lightly with soil. Aim to space plants 15-23cm (6-9″) apart.
Growing
Grow in rich, well drained soil with a pH range of 6.0-7.5. Water established plants only during dry spells. Cut back the short stems after flowering, and be sure to mulch if very cold weather is expected. Replenish with new seeds every 3-4 years.
Easy to grow seeds
*You can direct sow straight into the soil outside after the frosts have done their worst….about mid May. This your seedlings to about a foot and a half apart.
*Or sow some earlier in modules….I sow some at the beginning of April….then plant them out six weeks later.
*Only lightly cover the seed…don’t sow too deep.
