Mini orange hibiscus can be grown from seeds in a delightful gardening project and become colorful elements of any garden. As long as you treat the seeds with care and patiently wait for the growth to take place, you can grow these exotic flowers into stunning bloomers.

Begin with fresh seeds from a mature hibiscus pod. Dry and crack open the pod, then gently remove the seeds. Gently scratch the hard seed coat with a nail file or soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours for improved germination. This breaks the hard outer shell and allows for faster sprouting.

Choose a well-draining potting mix with high organic content. The best mix will consist of peat moss, perlite, and compost. Such a mix will give seeds the best conditions. Sow the seeds ¼ inch deep in moist potting medium. Sow them at least one inch apart so that the roots have room to grow. Water the soil after sowing with a gentle spray of water to permit even moisture in the medium. Then, place the pot within a plastic wrap or transparent plastic dome to provide a greenhouse condition.

Put the container in a warm spot whose temperature is 70–85°F (21–29°C). A south window or heat mat provides stable heat. Also, provide at least six hours of indirect sunlight or grow lights if natural light cannot be provided.

Keep the soil damp but not wet. Too much water will kill the roots, and too little will prevent it from sprouting. Once the seedlings have grown to a height, remove the plastic wrap and harden them off to more light. Transplant them into larger pots when they have two or three sets of leaves.

Lastly, After germination, transfer the seedlings outdoors as weather permits. Select an area with ample drainage and full sun exposure. Water, fertilize using a balanced hibiscus fertilizer on a regular basis, and pinch out regularly to promote bushy growth also.

With good maintenance, your dwarf orange hibiscus will thrive, yielding well annually.
