Digitalis or foxglove is a pretty flower with bell-shaped flowers in spikes. foxglove is a plant that attracts butterflies and bees and brings a touch of loveliness to a garden. Digitalis can be grown easily from seeds. Just follow the steps given below, and its lovely flowers will decorate your garden.

To obtain the best yield, plant Digitalis seeds in early spring or late summer. Will flower the second year if planted in spring, or plant late summer for a head start earlier than winter. For a head start earlier, plant the seed indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost.

Digitalis likes moist, rich, well-drained soil. First, select a half-shaded or sunny spot. Second, dig up and mix in compost for the purpose of making it fertile. Avoid using clay soil since it retains too much water and causes root rot.

Then sow the seeds. Plant them thinly on the ground and just press them lightly into the ground. Do not cover them because light will allow them to sprout. Give a small amount of water so that it is moist but not wet.

Two or three weeks afterward, small seedlings will appear. Keep watering the soil until they are a bit harder. When there are at least two sets of leaves, thin them out so that they are not too close to each other. Plant them at least 12 inches apart from each other.

Foxgloves need regular watering during a hot spell. Do not give excessive water since it will rot the roots in damp soil. Mulching keeps the soil moist and controls the weeds with a shallow layer. Feed early in spring with a balanced fertilizer or compost for best growth.

Digitalis flowers will usually flower in their second year. To promote ongoing bloom, deadhead the plant regularly. In order for the plant to set flowers for next year, let some flowers go to seed on the plant.

Digitalis is immune to insects but is attracted by aphids or slugs. Washing with soap insecticidal or water could be employed on university campuses with infestations of pests. Adequate drainage and spacing during planting avoid diseases from fungi.
