- Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the root.
- Plant the plant’s crown about an inch below the soil line, angling the bulbous roots outwards and a bit downwards.
- Evenly add soil and tamp it down to get rid of any air pockets.
- When the hole is 2/3 full, water generously, fill in the rest of the hole so that the crown is about an inch below the soil surface, and water again.

Light
Day lily bulbs love full sun (at least six hours each day). In hot climates, some afternoon shade keeps your flowers in good health although shade may reduce the number of blooms.
Daylilies thrive in all types of soil but prefer fertile and loamy soil. Just make sure the soil retains moisture well (adding compost helps). Also, ensure that the site is well-draining to prevent root rot.
Water Day lily Bulbs
Water. Daylilies have roots which hold water, and ditch lilies seem to grow all by themselves. However, if you’ll notice ditch lilies grow in ditches were water runs freely. They like extra water and good drainage.
Day lily Bulbs Fertilizer
Most daylilies do not need fertilizer. Instead, for added nutrients, add compost to the soil around the plants in each growing season.
When planting daylilies, spread their roots over a mound of soil in the hole. Make sure to place soil up underneath the daylily crown. You don’t want air pockets when winter comes calling.
