Caladium Hybrid Care Guide
Caladium hybrids are lovely tropical plants with colorful, heart-shaped leaves. They love hot weather and can add a splash of color to any garden or indoor houseplant location. To maintain them in good health and peak color, simply follow these easy care tips.
Light and Heat
Caladiums need to be positioned in bright, indirect light. They need to be cultivated outdoors in partial shade or where there is shading. Direct sunlight will scorch their delicate leaves. Caladiums love heat, so cultivate them at 65–80°F temperatures. Bring them indoors when the temperatures drop below 50°F to prevent damage. Ganesh bel can be a good companion
Watering
Caladium Hybrid likes perpetual wetness. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Not too much, though – waterlogged soil leads to root rot. Plant them in well-draining soil to help keep roots healthy. Drain holes if planted in pots.
Humidity
Caladiums as they are tropical plants prefer to be in humid conditions. If your house is too dry, attempt introducing a little humidity by misting on the leaves with water, placing a pan of water close to the plant, or using a humidifier. This will prevent the edges of the leaves from turning brown.
Caladium Hybrid Fertilizer
Feed caladiums every other week when cultivating them with an all-purpose, balanced liquid fertilizer. This promotes healthy growth and good color. Discontinue fertilizing the plant during the winter months when it is dormant.
Dormancy and Storage
Caladiums remain dormant during winter. Watering must be discontinued when leaves wilt. Remove the leaves only when they are dry, and carefully dig out the tubers. Place them in a cool, dry spot until the arrival of spring. Plant them when weather conditions are favorable.
Caladium Hybrid Pest and Disease Control
Caladiums are relatively pest-free but can on occasion be attracted to aphids, spider mites, or caterpillars. Monitor every now and again for leaves and destroy pests by spraying them off with water or insecticidal soap. Stop disease from setting in by preventing overwatering and also supplying good air movement.
If you follow these simple steps, your caladiums will remain healthy and beautiful all season long. With proper care, they will reward you year after year with their beautiful foliage.
