Begin by choosing a firm, disease-free bulb with no mold or softness. The larger the bulb, the more flowers it will produce, so always go for the largest and healthiest one available.

Plant it in a pot with holes for drainage to avoid waterlogging. Use a good draining soil mix, such as garden soil, sand, and compost. Position the bulb in the pot with one-third exposed above the soil. Water lightly after planting to settle.

Choose a bright location with filtered light. Direct sunlight in India will scorch the leaves, so filtered light is best. The morning sun gives healthy growth and strong flowers.

When the flower stalks are tall, these can be staked. Stake them with a thin stick or stake so that they will not bend.

Once the flowers have faded, trim the flower stems and leaves. The leaves hold energy for the following flowering season. Take out the yellow or ailing leaves so that the plant will appear well.

After the harvest season, allow the plant to go dormant. Do not water and allow foliage to dry naturally. Allow the bulb to rest in a dry, cooler place for 8-10 weeks. Repot and water for upcoming flowers.
