Gymnocalycium occultum is an unusual and uncommon cactus species. It belongs to the Gymnocalycium group with features of globe-shaped, spiny, and miniature cacti. It is indigenous to Argentina where it occurs naturally under dry environments and rocks.

The cactus is miniature and globe-shaped. It is aiming to position itself in a readily accessible position next to the level of the ground, thus, it flourishes in very stringent conditions. Gymnocalycium occultum forms transparent ribs on its stem and small pointed thorn-like sharpness which protects it. Its maturity occurs when it shows a lovely pale purple or pink flower bloom upon it when in mid-year. They add a splash of color and also add beauty to the plant.
