Start by purchasing good-quality seeds of Thunbergia alata from a reliable supplier. If collecting seeds from mature plants, dry out the seed pods on the plant first and then cut them down. Dry in a cool, dry place before sowing.

Immerse the seeds in lukewarm water 12–24 hours before sowing. This will fast-track germination because the tough covering will already have dissolved so seed sprouting will take less time. Not entirely necessary but really boosts success in sprouting.

Plant seeds indoors six to eight weeks before the final estimated frost date. Plant seed trays or pots in a light, well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep seeds 1/4 inch deep and cover with a light layer of soil.
